Nastassia joined DV Solicitors in March 2018 having qualified as a solicitor in 2016. Nastassia advises and defends businesses and individuals in areas involving trading standards, fraud, food safety and hygiene, health and safety, planning enforcement, environmental and animal welfare law.
Nastassia spent 10 years of her legal career in local government where she specialised in regulatory crime. Nastassia ‘s broad prosecution experience and insight into local authority’s policies and decision-making protocols provides her with a unique perspective in preparing client’s defence and case strategy to achieve the most beneficial outcome for her clients.
Nastassia’s recent successes include:
-Defending a local takeaway business and its directors in a prosecution for an array of serious food hygiene offences, leading to acquittal of one of the directors and nominal fine for the other;
- Successful tribunal appeal against Local Authority’s decision to refuse Housing Benefit on grounds of notional capital;
- Defending a family home from the Crown’s application to sell it to recoup criminal proceeds following conviction of the husband for drug-trafficking offences.
During Nastassia’s career as a regulatory crime lawyer she has been involved in a number of complex cases including:
prosecution of multiple interlinked car trading businesses for fraud and trading standards offences;
prosecution of a large-scale counterfeit goods business and related proceedings for recovery of criminal proceeds in excess of £200,000;
prosecution of a national leisure company for serious health and safety breaches;
enforcement action against a UK-wide supermarket chain for breach of planning conditions;
prosecution of an animal boarding business for multiple breaches of licence conditions and animal welfare offences;
prosecution of a food shop for selling food items past their ‘use by’ date;
prosecution of a local authority tenant for right-to-buy fraud.
Nastassia also has wide experience of civil and commercial litigation matters including contract disputes, debt recovery, property litigation and landlord and tenant matters. Nastassia started her legal education with CILEx Law School and qualified as a Legal Executive in 2013. She carried on with her legal studies at De Monfort University and was awarded Irwin Mitchell prize for the best overall performance in her Legal Practice Course from the same University. Nastassia qualified as a solicitor in January 2016
Prior to embarking on a career in law, Nastassia obtained a first class degree at the Belarus State Economic University in economics and international business. Nastassia’s non-legal background brings a valuable commercial dimension to her advice.
Nastassia is fluent in Russian and has a good standard of Spanish. In her spare time Nastassia enjoys spending time with her family: ice-skating, getting creative with craft activities, reading and spending time with her daughters.
